The Hampoort is a city gate from 1688. In the 17th and 18th centuries, two battalions of foot soldiers could stay in the gate spaces. During times when no troops were stationed in Grave, the building simply served as a city gate. Passing troops could possibly spend the night there. Around 1814 the gate was used as a bakery and as a military hospital. Nowadays the building no longer has a gate function. The passage is closed. The Graafs Museum and the guild chamber of the Cloveniers Guild are housed in the wings of the Hampoort.
