Located along a slope at 470 meters above sea level, the medieval Poreta Castle dominates the entire plain between Spoleto and Trevi.
The first inhabited center arose in the early Middle Ages, when the population abandoned the plain, no longer safe due to the incursions of the Hungarians and Saracens, taking refuge in highland settlements.
The oldest documentation of the existence of houses in the locality dates back to 1196.
The castle has suffered serious damage over the centuries due to a succession of strong earthquakes and this has led to progressive depopulation.
