This former capital used to have royal palaces, numerous Buddhist temples and old historic buildings, but now it's all just ruins.

Abandoned for centuries, the beautiful monuments of this former capital have now been restored. And in July 1988, the park was officially inaugurated.

In 1991, UNESCO recognized the Sukhothai Historical Park (Old Sukhothai) as a World Heritage Site.

The area presents Siamese art in the early stages, symbolizing the establishment of the first kingdom.

The ruined city history park Sukhothai (UNESCO World Heritage Site) is an important tourist attraction. The old city was surrounded by earthworks and moats of 1.8 km × 1.4 km in extent. Inside and outside the old city walls, there are now nearly 200 temple ruins, the oldest date from the 13th century. Already in 1942 there were plans to restore it as a historic park. The first work to inventory began in the early 1950s, the first restoration work began in 1964. The Ramkhamhaeng Museum was founded on January 25, 1964, where important finds were exhibited. The final restoration was completed in 1988, when the Sukhothai Historical Park was inaugurated by King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX). Inside and outside the old city walls are nearly 200 temple ruins, the oldest ruins date back to the 13th century.
