This mountain saddle between Ritschweier and Kunzenbach is called "Cold Lord God". He owes this name to the biting wind in autumn and winter, which can blow here unprotected. On the shrine the path passed between the monasteries Lorsch and Schönau, which were in close contact with each other during the High Middle Ages.

The exact age of the shrine is uncertain. It is quite possible that it is the oldest of its kind in the Odenwald.

Numerous legends and traditions surround the "Cold Lord".

For example, in earlier times, an alder bush next to the shrine was said to have burst into flames once a year to commemorate a bloody murder in the village. A farmer slew his servant to stop his love for his daughter. The daughter plunged then to death. The farmer, soon dying in gloom, found no peace in his grave. So one often saw him at this point with his hoe on his shoulder and heard him whining about his crime. Scratch marks on the stone of the shrine may indicate that the farmers used the magical power of the stone and mixed grains of it among their seeds.

Today, behind the lattice of the shrine, you can see a picture of a farmer with a fully loaded harvest cart. It reminds us that on August 12, 1922, at this point, the farmer Valentin Müller had an accident at the harvest.

In the 19th century, the "Cold Lord" became the meeting point of industrial workers on their way to Freudenberg. To this day, the path as a hiking trail from Weinheim in the Odenwald much committed. (Source: wanderwalter.de).
