Constanta historically known as Tomis, is the oldest continuously inhabited city in Romania. It was founded by Greece colonists in the 7th century b.C. The name was Tomis.

At the picture you see some archaeological excavation in front of St. Peter & Paul Cathedral.

Tomis was later renamed to Constantiana in honor of Constantia, the half-sister of Roman Emperor Constantine the Great (274-337).

The earliest known usage of this name was Constantia in 950.

The city is located on the Black Sea coast. It is the capital of Constanța County and the largest city in the region with round about 280 000 population.

Constanţa is Romania's largest and most important port city at the Black Sea and the fourth largest harbor in Europe.

If you have some spare time and you are curious about the history of Romania and Constanta, come and see this great city at the Black See.

Of course, I spend most of my time in Constanta looking at the sights of the city, which are numerous. There is, among other things, the old town or the harbour, which only really comes to life in the evening. But often I just sit in cafes on the beach or in the center and just relax and enjoy the atmosphere.
