A chapel made of sandstone which probably served not only for contemplation but also for learning... open today... be careful on the wooden steps when leaving the forecourt... super slippery

Beautiful chapel from the 18th century.
Due to the very close country road, it is quite noisy.

Today's Rottenberger Marienkapelle, hidden in a small oak grove on the road to Sailauf (former Kirchweg), dates from 1785 and replaces the original Pestkapelle. It houses a Pietà of unknown provenance and date. Her new stained glass window (May 2006) was designed by Margareta Weigel from Willmersbach and depicts the Virgin Mary and Saints Juliana of Liège, Joseph of Nazareth and Rottenberg's patron Antonius von Padua.A large wooden relief with a monastic scene in front of the chapel is reminiscent of a hermitage that existed nearby until 1782. The relief bears the inscription: "In the noisy world God is silent. But in the silence you can hear him".The chapel is also a station on one of the cultural tours of the Spessart Archaeological Project. Hiking trails connect them with Sailauf and its meadow orchards and the Eichenberg (408 m) and the town of the same name.Source: Wikipedia
