“There are shallow pits in the area as evidence of former clay mining. Clays from the hanging series of the Upper Freshwater Molasse were mined for use as ceramic raw materials. The clays were the basis of a pottery industry that flourished for centuries in the Kröning area (Kröninger Hafnerware) and of small rural brick-making businesses. The clays were deposited in still water areas (backwaters, small lakes and ponds at the edge of rivers) and are classified as small-scale
