The Gothic hall church made of ashlar masonry was built at the end of the 14th century. It consists of a nave, which was partially renovated in 1632 after a fire, a recessed choir with one bay and 5/8 end, a slightly off-set, five-storey choir flank tower covered with a Welsch dome on its north side, in whose belfry seven church bells hang, the sacristy opposite on its south side, a stair tower in the corner of the choir and sacristy and the octagonal stair tower covered with a bell dome on the northwest corner of the nave, which was added in 1906.

The stained glass in the tracery windows of the choir were created around 1380. The pulpit was originally built for St. John's Church in Ansbach and only came to Markt Erlbach in 1717. The predella of the altar from 1716 contains a relief depicting the Last Supper.

The organ with 29 registers on three manuals and pedal was built in 1989 by Gerhard Schmid.
