The previous medieval building, which stood on the remains of the Counts of Hohenlohe's Hohlach Castle, was demolished in 1738, retaining the three lower floors of the four-story choir tower on a square floor plan, and in 1739–40 the current hall church was built from plastered quarry stones based on a design by Johann David Steingruber Built in margrave style.
