The Tree Foundation website contains several stories about so-called “Trees of significance”. There is an article about “The tree that saw everything” from the Bijlmer disaster in 1992. There stood a Gray Abeel who seemed to have observed the fear and sadness of the residents with the “eyes” in her bark. This “Tree that saw everything” turned out to be able to comfort. And because many felt that way, a memorial place was created around that tree. We are now visiting our own “Tree that saw everything” for the second time (Chris van den Hoven wrote about it in the neighborhood magazine 'Lindenholt Leeft' of February 2024). This old, now unfortunately burned willow is a striking landmark in this park and also in this walk. Just like the Grauwe Abeel in De Bijlmer, this old willow has also witnessed the growth of our neighborhood with its residents and of this De Omloop park up close. Even in her burned form, she remains “the tree that saw everything” for the time being. She is centrally located in the park and we meet her three times during this walk.
