It is a sort of Votive aedicule built with three large monoliths in local stone. It seems that this construction was wanted by the Roma community to pay homage to a saint very devoted to them, Sant'Eligio, protector of blacksmiths (Aloia, in fact, would be the dialectal deformation of the name Eligio). During the San Giovanni fair which took place every year in Patù, the monument was considered a true place of devotion and a meeting point for the entire population.
