This statue of King Rama VI (also known as King Vajiravudh) standing in his ceremonial uniform was built to commemorate the opening of Lumphini Park.

      November 2, 2024

The King Rama VI Memorial is located at the entrance of Lumphini Park in Bangkok, near the Sala Daeng BTS station. It was designed by Italian sculptor Professor Silpa Bhirasri, also known as Corrado Feroci, and was inaugurated in 1942. The statue honors King Vajiravudh (Rama VI), who ruled from 1910 to 1925 and championed the modernization of Thailand and cultural and educational reforms.

The memorial shows the king in western clothing and is symbolic of his progressive vision. Directly behind the statue opens Lumphini Park, which is the city's first public green space and a popular place for recreational activities and offers visitors a relaxing environment. The area around Sala Daeng and the park is easily accessible and is also home to other cultural and historical attractions.

Lumphini Park is a great oasis of peace! It was inaugurated over 80 years ago, after all!
