The Koepchenwerk was the first German pumped storage plant to go into operation in January 1930. It was decommissioned in 1994 and replaced by a modern power station using the same pumped storage at the top of the mountain.

The Koepchenwerk is a historic pumped storage power plant on the Hengsteysee in Herdecke, which was put into operation in 1930.
