Approximately 35 km from the Golubac Fortress in the direction of Donji Milanovac is the archaeological site Lepenski Vir.

On the banks of the Danube, researchers discovered in the 1960s the remains of the Stone Age settlement Lepenski Vir, which was said to have been inhabited for more than 2,000 years. Because a special microclimate offered the people here ideal living conditions with not too hot summers and fairly mild winters. In addition, the rich fishing grounds of the Danube were a rich and never-ending source of food. Since the water level of the Danube had to be raised here as well, the archaeological site was placed 30 meters higher and covered with a glass construction. You can see the layouts of houses, tombs from different eras and sandstone sculptures. The central importance of the Danube in the lives of the people who lived here is shown by the figures of human beings with fish heads.
