Originally a brewery dating back to 1767, this modest yet notable dwelling later became the residence of Dr. Trotter during the latter half of the 19th century. Following his tenure, several other physicians, including Dr. John Brown, resided here. Dr. Brown is credited with painting both the interior and exterior of the house white, leading to its current and most recognized name. He remained in the house until his passing in 1996. Adjacent to the residence stood the brewery buildings, which served as the headquarters for the local athletics club, the Bedlington Harriers, before their eventual demolition.
