    The Witch's Revenge:
Once upon a time there lived in Kranlucken a bitterly evil witch who had renounced the Holy Trinity and thrown herself into the arms of the devil, who often visited her at night and taught her all sorts of hopeless and treacherous arts. Of course, this didn't go unnoticed and so it happened that she was despised and avoided by both young and old in the village. But the witch became increasingly angry about this and sought revenge. And since the devil had told her a number of bad things, such as how to make bad weather, she took what she had heard into it, said her saying and let the stuff run around in the sieve. So a small cloud soon rose on the horizon and headed towards Kranlucken. If the people had known what was about to happen to the place and had made a cross against the cloud, as the prayer books say, great misfortune would have been averted. But the cloud came over the village unhindered. A bright flash of lightning flashed out of it and immediately set half the village ablaze. Only with the greatest effort could the other half of Kranlucken be saved. But the church remained intact.
(Saga according to Ludwig Wucke) Ludwig Wucke was born in Bad Salzungen in 1807 and collected folk legends and dialect poems.
