The district was first mentioned in 803 with the name Atihuson. However, archaeological finds from the Hallstatt period testify to a much earlier settlement. In the Middle Ages there must have been a castle (Althausen Castle) in the village. Althausen was devastated by the Swedes during the Thirty Years' War.

The Church of St. Cyriacus was built around 1750. A schoolhouse followed in 1839.

On January 1, 1972, Althausen was incorporated into Münnerstadt as part of the regional reform in Bavaria.
