On the descent between Ardenay and Chalonnes, there is a pretty chapel which evokes the activity of coal mines for the country. During the last century, miners from St-Aubin, Chaudefonds and Chalonnes were obliged to go to their respective parishes; the distance prevented them from finding close consolation in the practice of religion. Also, in 1854, on the death of Count Emmanuel de Las Cases who had given such great development to coal mines, his widow, the Countess, born Elizabeth Poudret, decided, in memory of her husband, to build a place of worship in the heart of the small coal basin.recensement.patrimoine-religieux.fr/eglises_edifices/49-Maine-et-Loire/49063-Chalonnes-sur-Loire/130454-chapelledesMines
