Paternoster has a long history, in 1790 this part of the coast was discovered by the captain of a ship from the Dutch East Asia Company. There are different variants about the origin of the name Paternoster. Perhaps the place got its Latin name Pater Noster, in German, Our Father, because the Portuguese sailors thanked us with a quick prayer when they reached safe land here. Or it was named after a Dutch ship, the origin of which can no longer be clarified today . In any case, Paternoster is one of the oldest villages on the west coast, located in a fairly isolated location. Surrounded all around by fynbos and long, untouched beaches.
