The stone enclosure on the grounds of the Pembroke Town Hall marks the first structure after the meeting house constructed in the original town common as a wooden pound. The Pembroke Town Pound, built in 1712, was a temporary shelter for wandering animals who caused disturbances. The pound played a crucial role in the town's early days by providing a secure location for lost cattle and oxen until their owners retrieved them.
