The Hariksee has been a popular destination for day trippers for many years and so there is a good tourist infrastructure here. Gastronomy, miniature golf course, rowing and pedal boat rentals, a people-cruising steamer called Patschel and good connections to the local hiking trail network.

"...From a place of pleasure for a bon vivant to a popular local recreation destination
Coffee and cake and then a boat tour on the Hariksee - a nice weekend program with children. Both at the Inselschlösschen and at the Mühlrather Mühle on the other side of the lake, you have the opportunity to rent a boat and explore the lake with your own muscle power. Or you go on board the excursion ship "Patschel" to experience the beauty of Lake Harik from there.
If you prefer to walk, we recommend the 3.5-kilometer circular route A 5. It connects the two destinations and offers beautiful views of the lake from all sides. Lake Harik has its origins long before peat was mined, but the hard work of the peat cutters gave it its current shape and size.
The castle was built at the end of the 19th century for Bartholomäus Rosbach, the former owner of Haus Clee in Waldniel, as a small villa for hunting pleasure, parties and love affairs. In 1920 the tourist development of Lake Harik began. A special feature of the Hariksee are the holiday church services in the open air, which have been held since 1965 from March to September on Saturdays at 5 p.m. in the forest behind the weekend houses. ..."

You do not have the opportunity to be on the lake in too many places. Here you can enjoy the view in peace from different benches.

There is no way to take a circular route close to the water, as it is closed with private villas and campsites. But where you can see the lake, there is a wonderful view. There is an offer to take a boat trip on the lake with rented boats.

A very beautiful area around the lake to explore on foot, by boat or small boats. The Inselschlösschen then invites you to take a break.

Nowadays you have the opportunity to rent pedal boats and electric boats at the Mühlrather Mühle in order to sail across the Hariksee. The Hariksee, with a water surface of around 20 hectares, was formed in the recent geological past as a result of shifts in the earth's interior and can therefore look back on an age of 8,000 to 12,000 years. Like all nutrient-rich bodies of water, it was subject to the typical silting up due to plant deposits before systematic peat extraction began in the 17th century, giving it its current shape. For countless generations it was used as a water reservoir for the Mühlrath mill located at the northwestern exit of the lake, which was first mentioned in documents in 1447.

Even today, the Hariksee is an extremely nutrient-rich body of water and therefore has fen forest and shore plant zones arranged like a fringe, in which the moisture plays a decisive role in the species composition.

As a resident of Brempt, I recommend visiting the St. George Chapel in Brempt.
The picturesque St. George Chapel is located near the Hariksee, in the middle of the small village of Brempt.
The St. Georg Brempt chapel was built around 1500 by the Lords of Brempt. The Lower Rhine stepped gable and the roof have just been extensively restored with the help of donations and the support of the Aachen diocese.
In our chapel there are valuable art treasures. The most important and valuable sculpture is the Romanesque crucifix with a body from the early 11th century, probably from 1060. The cross is very similar to the Gero Cross in Cologne Cathedral. Other valuable figures from the 15th, 17th and 18th centuries, such as the figure of St. Bartholomew, the Madonna with the pear, St. George with the dragon or Joseph with the child (and much more), not only move art-interested visitors in amazement.
The association St. Georg Brempt would like to from the ca.15. Century dating chapel, which belongs to the most valuable cultural heritage of Niederkrüchten preserved as Brempt's landmark.
Brempt is known as a place for excursions, with the adjacent Hariksee. Many visitors from near and far visit the place. In order to be able to show our gem to as many people in the region as possible, we open the chapel every Sunday from May to October from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Experienced volunteers give interested visitors an insight into the history of the chapel. Pilgrim groups and those interested in art receive guided tours on request, even outside the opening hours. Regular church services / word services, such as the harvest thanksgiving service or the "church services in the countryside", regularly attract many visitors. At concerts, readings and seasonal festivals in and around the chapel, the focus is on getting to know, meeting and exchanging ideas with the people in the region.
Registrations outside the opening times at the Friends of the St. Georg Chapel Brempt eV.
