Fort Marlborough is a former British East India Company fortress in Bengkulu City, built between 1713 and 1719. In 1760, during the Seven Years' War, the fortress temporarily fell into French possession. The British transferred Bengkulu to Dutch control under the Anglo-Dutch Treaty of 1824. During the years 1942-1945, the Japanese occupied the fort. Since 1977, the fortress was handed over to the then Ministry of Education and Culture for restoration and conversion into a cultural heritage site.
