The Öjendorfer Park is located in the triangle Öjendorfer Friedhof, Autobahn A 24 and Autobahn A 1 in the east of the Hanseatic city. It is the third largest park in Hamburg with the Öjendorfer See on the western edge of the green area. After all, the Öjendorfer See is a good twice as big as the Binnenalster. In this park people meet, especially in summer, to swim or to have a picnic with the family at the weekend. Especially its signposted circular routes attract people from all over Hamburg. The park offers children large meadows to romp around in, playgrounds with an Indian fort, miniature golf, horseback riding with ponies and the water of the Schleemer Bach and the Öjendorfer See for swimming and for exploring their natural world. The area around the lake was originally used for agriculture. From 1925 to 1929, however, it was excavated to a depth of 10-12 meters in order to raise the Horner Marsch with the sand and gravel extracted. After the end of the Second World War, the pit was used to dump the rubble from the destroyed parts of the city in the east of Hamburg. The pit was partially refilled with it. The rubble was transported by a rubble train, which was brought in from the districts of Hamm and Horn. In 1954 a ditch was built to the Schleemer Bach. The pit was filled with water and has since served as a retention basin for the stream.
