Tiefengruben has been known for its good fruit for centuries. From a decree of 1705 it emerges that every new neighbor in the village had to plant twelve fruit trees "for the benefit and piety of the general public". In the 19th and early 20th centuries, the people of Tiefengruben were always among the prize winners at the fruit variety shows and presentations that took place regularly in Weimar and the region.
