This mausoleum from the end of the 2nd century is the most important evidence of the Roman community of Abla. The city was already mentioned in ancient sources as a stopover for travelers on the important road to Guadix. The simple building with a square floor plan and a side length of 4.8 m was built on a slate base and built with “opus caementicium”, the hardness of which is similar to today's concrete. The mausoleum was intended to house the grave of an important citizen of the region.
