The Archbishop's Castle in Kroměříž is a dominant feature of the city. Its origin and development is connected with the history of the bishopric and archbishopric of Olomouc and the vassal community of the bishops of Olomouc, which was elevated to a city in the 13th century. The original castle and the later chateau were the residence of the bishops of Olomouc and the seat of their Manx organization. The current form of the building dates from the years 1664-1695, when the castle was rebuilt under Bishop Karel Lichtenstein-Castelcorn after the Thirty Years' War according to the designs of architects Filiberto Luchese and Pietro Giovanni Tencalla.
