The parish church of St. James the Greater – Chiesa Madre di San Giacomo – stands on a site that was already a place of worship in pre-Christian times. A Romanesque chapel and a Gothic church were built over by 1775, giving rise to the present late Baroque church.

Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a magnificent world of art: one of the most beautiful Rococo churches in the diocese. The Madonna on the high altar and the three female figures on the south side altar date back to the Gothic period. Next to the main entrance to the church, on the south side of the tower, is a large fresco of St. Christopher. It dates from the end of the 15th century and depicts the saint carrying the Christ Child across a river, in whose waters all sorts of strange creatures frolic.

The baroque building from 1775 with a late Gothic church tower from 1472 is a pilgrimage church that can be reached via the Lindenweg from Mühlbach. The hiking trail is paved with numerous granite boulders and lined with shrines of virgins.

The imposing parish church with its striking Romanesque tower dominates the townscape of Maranza. Surrounded by colorful flowers and overlooking the valley, it not only invites you to take a quiet moment of contemplation but also makes a lovely photo stop on your way through the village. The freestanding bell tower with its large clock is particularly impressive.
