Cabezamesada was founded during the reconquest by Christian troops fleeing through the Riánsares basin after losing the battle of Uclés. In the 15th century, the Catholic Monarchs gave it the name of Villa Real. Its main activity during that century was farming and grazing; these activities survive in the town, as well as buildings from the period.
