Jumonville Glen holds historical significance. It was the site where George Washington, accompanied by American Indian allies, discovered the French camp during the French and Indian War. Intent on surrounding the French and uncovering their plans, a shot was unexpectedly fired while Washington was positioning his troops. In response, Washington ordered his Virginia soldiers to open fire, leading to the surrender of the French after 15 minutes.
