The monument, erected in honor of the German Emperor Wilhelm II, is located in the Ålesund City Park below Mount Aksla.The reason for the erection of the monument was the rapid help for Ålesund initiated by William II after the devastating fire in Ålesund in 1904. The monument was created by Lars Utne and ceremoniously unveiled on July 5, 1910. It was built as a seven meter high obelisk with a relief depicting the emperor's profile attached. The inscription contains the text Wilhelm II. 1904. The monument was financed by citizens of the city. Wikipedia
