Also recommended is Stari Podrum in Ilok. As far as I can remember, the 15-20 € the double room per night with breakfast tasted and is a really nice place to stay with great historic wine cellar and restaurant.

Today's route from Vukovar to Ilok is nothing special. Only farmland and grapevines right and left of the highway. So again boring mileage? No way !!! Every time a village comes, it goes steeply downhill, but then again with about 8% slope up. Everything still good, even in the heat. But steeper it may not be today.
Shortly before Ilok I overtake another young Englishman who drives from England to Belgrade. Since I have no fixed sleeping space for this night and he does not, we decide to search something together. We drive to a hostel that is supposed to be in a former cinema of Ilok for 16.32 € the night. It's a big house that somehow has charm but is also scary. It's good that the Briton is here, we are the only residents in the house, that offers space for about 60 guests in very "delightful" shared rooms. I would never have stayed in this big house alone.
