Tips

  • Based on a 13th century fortress built on even older foundations, the current castle was mainly built by Venetians from the 15th century onwards, and Ottomans.
Entrance in winter is Tuesday-Sunday 8-15 h, €1, or free if you enter around 8:10 a.m. while the staff is walking inside the huge terrain to open the various locked doors of the other buildings 😉
In summer probably open til 20h, €3

  • That castle is worth a visit. Park your bike outside and enjoy a walk inside the ruin walls.
Thr entrance fee is just a couple of Euros and you can enjoy the well preserved buildings. You can spend from 30 minutes up to half a day, depending on your needs.

  • Methoni (Greek Μεθώνη, also Modon, Modoni, Mothone or ancient Greek Methone, in Homer Pedasos) is a small Greek port town in Messinia at the southwestern end of the Peloponnese with about 2598 inhabitants today (as of 2011). Until the end of 2010, Methoni was an independent municipality, after incorporations since 1997 as a city municipality (dimos). On 1 January 2011, Methoni became a municipal district of the new municipality of Pylos-Nestor (for further subdivision see there).
