Based on a 13th century fortress built on even older foundations, the current castle was mainly built by Venetians from the 15th century onwards, and Ottomans.
Entrance in winter is Tuesday-Sunday 8-15 h, €1, or free if you enter around 8:10 a.m. while the staff is walking inside the huge terrain to open the various locked doors of the other buildings 😉
In summer probably open til 20h, €3

That castle is worth a visit. Park your bike outside and enjoy a walk inside the ruin walls.
Thr entrance fee is just a couple of Euros and you can enjoy the well preserved buildings. You can spend from 30 minutes up to half a day, depending on your needs.

Until the end of 2010, Methoni was an independent municipality, after incorporations since 1997 as a city municipality (dimos). On 1 January 2011, Methoni became a municipal district of the new municipality of Pylos-Nestor (for further subdivision see there).
