The Old Clocktower Lighthouse is a clock tower and former lighthouse. The 29 m high and square masonry was built in 1860 in the center of Colombo as a clock tower. Five years later, the lantern was added and the structure was also put into operation as a lighthouse in 1865. As the beacon became increasingly obscured by surrounding buildings, the decision was made in 1952 to build a new lighthouse on the city's waterfront.
