Even in Sri Lanka, elephants are still being hunted down and shot down by poachers, even though they are prohibited. Rice farmers also trap animals in traps or they fall into pits, as the farmers are furious when the elephants trample the rice fields. Some juveniles are found and come to the orphanage. There they are fed and nursed and then reintroduced. They must not get used to humans.
