The castle site lies on a steep, rocky hill above the Erlimatt farm. The calcareous rock is heavily fissured and has numerous natural shafts and crevices that extend deep into the interior of the rock. The upper castle plateau (core castle) is smaller and probably only contained a residential wing or a tower.
