The Breitunger Rennsteig leads 16 km from Breitungen to the actual Rennsteig. It was explored and created by the founders of the Rennsteig Association. If you believe local historian Georg Brückner, this is actually the continuation of the original Rennsteig, as it follows the historical state border between Hesse-Cassel and Saxony-Meiningen.
