The founder of the damask weaving mill was Heinrich August Wilhelm Nickel, who ran his weaving mill at Catthagen 6 until 1840.
He then moved the weaving workshop to the houses at Westendorf 11-15. His son Leonhard made the company known far beyond the country's borders. In 1914 the company became purveyor to the court of Duke Johann-Albrecht of Mecklenburg. The Nickel company was considered a premier address for damask goods in Germany.
