The church of San Nicolò Vescovo is a place of Catholic worship with baroque and neo-Romanesque forms located in via Maiatico 95, near the small village cemetery, in Maiatico, a hamlet of Sala Baganza, in the province and diocese of Parma; it is part of the pastoral area of Calestano-Felino-Sala Baganza.
The original place of worship was built in medieval times: the oldest mention of its existence dates back to 26 January 1208, when the building was mentioned in a document as a branch of the parish church of Collecchio; the chapelle de Maliatico was also mentioned in 1230 in the Capitulum seu Rotulus Decimarum of the diocese of Parma, among the dependencies of the same parish.
The small church was erected as a parish church in 1564 and, towards the end of the 16th century, construction work began on the modern building, which was only completed in the 18th century.
On 31 July 1851 the structure was heavily damaged by lightning, which caused the collapse of a bell tower, as well as the presbytery and the adjacent house of the bell ringer; the renovation works were started in the following years and in 1878 the surviving bell tower was raised and equipped with a large clock, donated by the Marquise Teresa Araldi Trecchi.
