Captain Charlie's Station, named after Charles Swan, was a group of four government-provided dwellings for the keepers of Cape Fear Lighthouse and their families, who lived here from 1903 to 1933. The buildings were abandoned after the lighthouse's deactivation in 1958 and were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
