An almost 2 meter high T-shaped high cross (so-called Tau cross) awaits visitors coming from the sea in the harbor.
An island legend mentions a Cromwellian soldier who tried to destroy the Tau with his sword, but despite his best efforts was unable to break it, which is why the Tories fishermen believe it has protective powers and it has become a habit to pray to her before heading out to sea.
The Tau Cross in Tory is one of only two in Ireland, the other being in Kilnaboy, County Clare.
