Neusaß with a pilgrimage church, Mary's grotto and an ancient linden tree

Neusaß (first mentioned in 1155) has been considered a holy place since time immemorial. Surrounded by the monastery's former fishing ponds and embedded in an idyllic landscape, this place has a special flair. Numerous Celtic burial mounds suggest that the area was inhabited as early as 1000 BC. was settled. There is much to suggest that the “Heiligenbrünnle” spring was already a place of worship in pre-Christian times. A large pilgrimage was reported for the first time as early as 1395. The holy spring and the chapel were a destination for hundreds of believers. This place of pilgrimage is still alive today; the water of the “Heiligenbrünnle” is said to have healing powers.
