The reserve includes Lake Wielkie, three smaller dystrophic lakes, an extensive raised peat bog and the surrounding forests (swamp forest, swampy birch forest, oak and beech forests, and, marginally, acidic beech forest).
The swamp forests of the reserve were the last place in Pomerania where the capercaillie occurred, but it became extinct in this area in the years 1960–1980.
