The Eagle Spur Trail offers an easy hiking experience, guiding you through a rustic path under a dense tree canopy. You will follow an old abandoned rail corridor, now transformed into a natural route. This 4.9-mile (7.9 km) hike involves a minimal elevation gain of just 50 feet (15 metres), making it suitable for nearly everyone. Expect to spend around 1 hour and 59 minutes exploring the wetlands, which eventually lead to a picturesque peninsula extending into Jordan Lake. The views over the water provide a peaceful reward for your efforts.

Before you head out, be aware that the trail can become submerged after heavy rainfall, so check local conditions if there have been recent storms. Due to its wetland environment, you might encounter bugs, especially during warmer weather. The path itself is uneven in places, with potential holes from old culverts, which means it is not ideal if you plan to use a stroller. Also, since the route crosses NC Wildlife Resources Commission gamelands, hunting is permitted during specific seasons; wearing blaze orange is a good safety measure if you hike during those times.

This trail stands out for its unique journey along what was once an active rail line, now reclaimed by nature. As you hike, keep an eye out for various birds and animals that inhabit the wetlands, including the bald eagles for which the area is named. The undeveloped character of the route provides a distinctive natural escape, offering a glimpse into the region's ecosystem and history.
