Built in the first half of the eighteenth century after the discovery of a sacred image of the Madonna, the sanctuary suffered devastation during the Allied bombings in November 1944.
The 1960 reconstruction, led by the architect Adriano Marabini, led to a renovation with wall blocks of local travertine from the Labante quarries.
