The zoo is only illuminated along the main streets. Here you will find a place in the city that is relatively dark. How does the darkness affect your feelings? When we transition from brightness to darkness, the retina of our eyes needs about a minute to adjust to the reduced light intensity. After about ten minutes, the transition from the color-sensitive cones to the rods responsible for twilight vision occurs, with the sensitivity continuing to increase. In total, it takes about half an hour for the rods to fully adapt to the darkness, and the retina becomes extremely sensitive to light. The reverse process, adaptation to bright light, occurs within 15 to 60 seconds.
