The intersection of the Vereda da Ilha (PR1.1) and Vereda do Pico Ruivo (PR1.2) trails is located near the Casa de Abrigo do Pico Ruivo shelter, just below the summit of Pico Ruivo, Madeira's highest point at 1,862 meters. This shelter serves as a central hub where several trails converge:
PR1.2 – Vereda do Pico Ruivo: This trail starts at Achada do Teixeira and leads 2.8 km to Pico Ruivo. It is considered moderately difficult and is one of the most popular routes to the summit.
PR1.1 – Vereda da Ilha: This 8.2 km trail descends from the shelter to the village of Ilha. With an elevation gain of 1,376 meters, it is more challenging and takes approximately three hours.
PR1 – Vereda do Pico do Arieiro: Another challenging trail that connects Pico Ruivo with Pico do Arieiro.
