The Temple of Artemis was the largest temple in the ancient world. Because of its imposing size and its sculptures richly decorated with precious stones, it was considered one of the 7 wonders of the world.

One of the 7 wonders of the ancient world, unfortunately not much remains of it. There is no entry fee either.

The Temple of Artemis in Ephesus, or the Artemision of Ephesus for short, was dedicated to the goddess Artemis Ephesia, a special form of the Greek goddess Artemis. It is said to have been founded by the mythical Amazons[1] or their queen Otrere[2] and was the largest temple building among the “Seven Wonders of the World” of antiquity. The ancient Greek city of Ephesus near modern-day Selçuk on the southwest coast of modern-day Turkey was famous for its wealth and later became one of the largest cities of antiquity as the capital of the Roman province of Asia.

In ancient Greek, the temple was called ὁ ναὸς τῆς Ἀρτέμιδος Ἐφεσίης (ho naòs tês Artémidos Ephesíês), ὁ ἐν Ἐφέσῳ ναὸς τ ῆς Ἀρτέμιδος (ho en Ephésô naòs tês Artémidos) or τὸ Ἀρτεμίσιον Ἐφέσιον (tò Artemísion Ephésion), in Latin Artemisium Ephesi(n)um or templum Dianae Ephesi(n)ae.
