According to ancient ecclesiastical documents, the church was rebuilt at the expense of the noble Don Gaetano Cardia in 1758.
The building already had a single nave and a roof made of tiles and wooden boards: “It is 21 palms wide, 23 high, 55 long; it has a door in the front, and an ordinary bell tower without bell or staircase”. Inside the church there was a single altar with a niche in which the image of the Saint was displayed.
