The Pleckenbrinksee in Dortmund-Wickede is an interesting and relatively young lake that was created in 2007 as a result of a subsidence. This subsidence was created over former mining areas of the Massener Tiefbau mine and meant that groundwater and rainwater could no longer be drained away by drainage and pumping systems as before. The lake now covers an area of around 5.6 hectares and reaches a depth of up to 1.5 meters. The Pleckenbrinksee is a popular destination for nature lovers and bird watchers. A variety of water birds can be found here, including rare species such as the little grebe and the goosander. In summer, the hobby can often be seen hunting dragonflies. The lake and its surroundings offer exciting observation opportunities for various bird species all year round. The area around the Pleckenbrinksee is largely natural and invites you to take walks and hikes. There are no official parking spaces directly at the lake, but it is easily accessible on foot or by bike. A circular path around the lake leads through quiet side streets and forest paths and offers numerous beautiful views of the water and its animal inhabitants.
