At the end of the 19th century, the Borsig company relocated its production to a new factory in Tegel. Since there was insufficient living space for the workers and employees near the new factory, a factory housing project was to be built. For this purpose, the Terraingesellschaft Tegel mbH was initially founded, whose task was to acquire building land.[1] Ultimately, by the end of 1895, the Terraingesellschaft had purchased an area of 200 acres (around 51 hectares) of land from the municipality of Dalldorf (later Wittenau), which had previously been leased as pastureland. The Terraingesellschaft initially laid out a road network there[2] and then sold the prepared building land to the Borsig company,[3] which, in the following years, built residential buildings both itself and through building cooperatives in which it held a significant stake.[4] The first houses were ready for occupancy on 1 October 1899 in the area of today's Holzhauser Straße,[1] until 1900
